Step-By-Step Guide To Clean A Sheepskin Rug
1. Shake and Brush the Rug
Before you start cleaning your rug, give it a shake. Take it outside and shake it properly to remove the loose soil, dirt, and debris from the rug fibres. Once done, use a soft-bristled brush or wool comb to brush out the tangled fibres.
2. Vacuum Thoroughly
After shaking and brushing your rug, it’s time to vacuum it. However, don’t use the carpet attachment for vacuuming as the revolving bar can damage the rug. You can use upholstery attachment with a plane suction function.
Starting from the top, work in the direction of fibres. Be slow and gentle. Thorough vacuuming will remove the hidden dirt, debris, and allergens from your rug and prepare it for deep cleaning.
3. Check the Care Label
Before you deep clean the rug with water and cleaning solution, you must check its care label. Some sheepskin rugs require special attention and should only be cleaned by a professional. In such cases, you can contact our experts. We provide expert rug cleaning while ensuring the right care.
If the care label says you can clean with water, proceed to further steps.
4. Treat the Stains
If the stain is fresh, start by blotting the affected area with a clean microfiber cloth or paper towel. Soak as much stain as possible.
Prepare a cleaning solution of warm water and a suitable sheepskin rug cleaner as per the directions on the product. Dip a clean cloth in the solution and start bloating the stained area. Change the cloth or move to the cleaner area of the cloth as you continue blotting.
Blot until the stain is completely transferred. Once done soak another clean cloth and plain water and blot the area to remove soapy residue.
5. Prepare a Cleaning Solution
Fill the bathtub or the vessel you are using with normal-temperature water and add the required quality of sheepskin rug cleaner as per the directions on the product. Stir this solution to mix it well.
6. Soak the Rug
Submerge your rug into the tub and let it soak completely for 2-5 minutes. You can gently agitate the rug with your hand to work the cleaning solution on dirt, grime, and stubborn stains. Keep the rug in the tub for 15-20 minutes.
7. Rinse and Dry
After deep cleaning the rug, drain the tub fill it with normal water and soak the rug. Then squeeze the rug to remove the excess water and soapy residue from the rug. You might also need to do it twice.
Once done, leave your run to air dry in a shed. It will take a few hours to dry the rug depending on its size and surrounding temperature.
8. Groom the Rug
Once your rug is completely dry, gently groom it with a brush or wool comb. It will untangle the fibres and make your rug look fluffy and cosy.
Cleaning a sheepskin rug is not a difficult task. But you have to be very careful while choosing the cleaning solution. Moreover, be gentle when scrubbing the rug and make sure the rug is completely dry after cleaning. By doing this, you can maintain your rug for years to come.
